Idaho is a northwestern state home to over 1.6 million people. The official nickname for the Idaho is the “Gem State” based on the gemstones found in the state’s wilderness areas. Due to the relatively small population size, Area code 208 was established in 1947 and was originally projected to be exhausted in 2003. The state implemented number pooling in Boise (the largest city) which is the process of reorganizing an area’s telephone numbers to reduce wasted numbers and other inefficiencies.
