Oklahoma Area Codes

Oklahoma is a state located in the south central region of the country, home to nearly 4 million people. The state is notable for it’s production of natural gas, oil and agricultural products. The largest city (and capital) is Oklahoma City.

There are currently four Oklahoma area codes. In 1947, area code 405 was established and covers Oklahoma City metropolitan area which includes Oklahoma City, Edmond, Stillwater and El Reno. It served the entire state for 6 years. In 1953, area code 918 was established to serve northeast areas including Bartlesville, Broken Arrow, Jenks and Tulsa. The latter city is the most populous in the state with over 400,000 residents. In 1997, area code 580 was introduced and services Ada, Boise City, Enid and Weatherford. Most recently, area code 539 was rolled out as an overlay. Check out our infographic and consider sharing with anyone who might find it interesting!
